NEW YORK - Shares of machinery companies fell in early trading, as the overall market fluctuated on worries about the nation's ailing financial system and a drop in oil prices.
Light, sweet crude fell $4.59 to $136.78 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, after falling nearly $4 a barrel a day earlier.
Here's how some machinery stocks were doing in early trading:
Manitowoc Co., down 64 cents, or 2.3 percent, at $27.76.
Terex Corp., down $1.15, or 2.4 percent, at $46.45.
Cummins Inc., down 35 cents at $63.70.
Caterpillar Inc., down $1.02 at $69.79.
Deere & Co., down $1.70, or 2.4 percent, at $68.12.
