Ezcorp sees 3Q earnings better than expected

AUSTIN, Texas - Ezcorp Inc., which operates a chain of pawn stores, said Tuesday its fiscal third-quarter earnings will be better than previously anticipated on stronger-than-expected sales gross profit.

Ezcorp now expects to earn 25 cents per share for the quarter ended June 30. It previously anticipated earning 21 cents per share.

Analysts polled by Thomson Financial, on average, forecast earnings of 21 cents per share for the quarter.

The pawn broker earned 16 cents per share during the same quarter a year ago.

Fiscal third-quarter results include the effects of closing 11 Florida stores on June 17 and a previously announced settlement with the Texas Attorney General.

Ezcorp also raised its outlook for the fourth quarter and full year. Ezcorp now expects to earn 35 cents per share during the fiscal fourth quarter and $1.19 per share for the full year.

The company previously forecast earnings of 34 cents per share during the quarter ending Sept. 30 and $1.14 for the full year.

Analysts anticipate Ezcorp will earn 35 cents per share during the fourth quarter and $1.15 per share for the full year.

Ezcorp is scheduled to release full fiscal third-quarter results on July 24.
