Nasdaq 100 Leaders and Laggards: STLD HANS

NEW YORK - Hansen Natural Corp. posted the biggest percentage decline on the Nasdaq 100 Wednesday, after the maker of Monster energy drinks reported soft sales at convenience stores.

Shares of Hansen Natural declined $4.39, or 15.2 percent, to $24.56.

The Nasdaq 100 index, which includes 100 of the largest nonfinancial securities listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market, declined 52.10 points, or 2.78 percent, to 1,819.18. The broader Nasdaq composite fell 59.55 points, or 2.6 percent, to 2,234.89, reflecting sharp declines in other major indexes.

Shares of Marvell Technology Group Ltd. declined $1.29, or 7.7 percent, to $15.50.

Shares of KLA-Tencor Corp. declined $3.05, or 7.5 percent, to $37.60, following other chip equipment makers lower.

On the rising side, shares of Steel Dynamics Inc. added $1.49, or 4.7 percent, to $33.19. A UBS analyst upgraded the company on Wednesday.

Shares of VeriSign Inc. rose 93 cents, or 2.8 percent, to $33.78, also following upgrade, this one from Robert. W. Baird & Co..

Shares of Joy Global Inc., which makes mining equipment, rose $1.59, or 2.2 percent, to $72.75.
