NEW YORK - Senator Barack Obama appeared in New York City on Wednesday night, alongside Caroline Kennedy to attend the first of three fundraisers for Obama's campaign and to help ease Clinton out of her primary debt. During the first event, Obama almost forgot to ask donors to support his onetime rival.

Speaking at the Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan, Obama delivered a 30-minute speech where he spoke on campaign issues from the universal health care bill, gas house emission to the war in Iraq. Following the speech, Obama walked off without mentioning Clinton's debt.

After realizing what had happened, Obama rushed back to the stage. "Hold on a second guys, I was getting all carried away," he said as the crowd laughed.

"As you know Senator Clinton still has some debt. And I could have had some debt if I hadn't won so I know the drill. You know, that is part of the process of making sure that we are unified moving forward," he said as he urged attendees to donate.

Clinton owes more than $10 million to campaign debtors.

Obama took the chance to praise Clinton by saying that "no one has been more extraordinary than a certain junior senator from New York. Not only did she inspire voters, but she inspired young people, especially young women, so that my daughters can take it for granted the idea that a woman can be president."

Obama will join Senator Clinton at a "Women for Obama" breakfast fundraiser on Thursday at the New York Hilton and Towers. Obama has been courting Clinton's fundraisers slowly since Clinton suspended her campaign on June 7.

The former rivals make their first public appearance together for the former opponents since their much-publicized event in Unity, N.H., last Friday.

By mid-June, Obama's campaign has raised a record-breaking $287 million since the beginning of the campaign, while Republican rival John McCain has raised $117.6 million.
