BRISBANE, Calif. - Apparel retailer Bebe Stores Inc. said Thursday that same-store sales fell 5.6 percent during the fiscal fourth quarter.

Same-store sales, or sales at stores open at least a year, is a key measure of retailer performance, because it measures growth at existing stores rather than from newly opened ones.
Total retail sales for the quarter ended July 7 rose 4 percent to $167.2 million from $160.9 million last year.
Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial, on average expected sales to total $168.5 million.
For the fiscal year, same-store sales fell 7.6 percent, while total sales edged up just over 1 percent to $675.1 million from $665.5 million.
