NEW YORK - Chinese solar cell maker JA Solar Holdings Co. Ltd. said Thursday that Elmer Hsu will replace Kang Sun as chief operating officer on Aug. 1.

Hsu has been an independent director since September 2007 and will retain his board seat.
Sun is resigning as COO, president and board member to pursue other interests, JA Solar said. The company did not announce a new president.
JA Solar also said that Robert Jih-chang Yang became an independent director on Wednesday.
Shares fell $1.12, or 7.3 percent, to $14.30 in morning trading.
