Opening Glance: Rails, shippers rise as oil falls

NEW YORK - Shares of railroads and shippers mostly rose early Thursday as oil retreated and the broader market edged higher on the news that Dow Chemical Co. plans to buy rival chemicals maker Rohm and Haas Co. for more than $15 billion.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp., up 90 cents to $96.45.

CSX Corp., up $1.28, or 2.2 percent, to $59.71.

FedEx Corp., up 36 cents to $75.99.

United Parcel Service Inc., up 37 cents to $59.66.
