FRAMINGHAM, Mass - Discount retailer TJX Cos. said Thursday its same-store sales rose 5 percent in June, beating Wall Street estimates, as warmer weather boosted demand for summer clothes.

Same-store sales, or sales at stores open at least a year, is a key indicator of retailer performance since it measures growth at existing stores rather than newly opened ones.
Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial expected same-store sales to rise 3.5 percent.
Total sales for the period rose 9 percent to $1.8 billion.
So far this year, same store sales are up 4 percent.
Total year-to-date sales have increased 7 percent to $7.7 billion.
The company also raised its second-quarter earnings per share prediction, citing strong sales in May and June
