NEW YORK - Diversified health care products company Johnson & Johnson said Friday it will receive $200 million from biotechnology company Amgen Inc. as part of a settlement of an antitrust lawsuit.
In the lawsuit, J&J's Ortho Biotech unit alleged that Amgen violated antitrust laws when it gave discounts to oncology clinics on its products. Those products included Aranesp, which treats anemia associated with chemotherapy treatment, along with Neupogen and Neulasta, which prevent infections in chemotherapy patients.
J&J makes Epogen, which treats anemia associated with chemotherapy treatment. The company expects to include the settlement with its third-quarter results.
The lawsuit in New Jersey District Court will be dismissed.
In a statement, Amgen said it continues to deny that its challenged conduct was unlawful, and admits to no wrongdoing in the settlement.
Shares of New Brunswick, N.J.-based Johnson & Johnson fell 68 cents to close at $66.26 while shares of Thousand Oaks, Calif.-based Amgen fell 67 cents to close at $51.02.
