The premiere was held in New York City -same city where the actor died- at the IMAX theater in Lincoln Square where Hedge's mother and father and oldest sister expressed their admiration for Hedge's performance as The Joker.

"Heath loved the experience of creating this character and working on the film. We are so proud of our boy," said the family according to FOX News.

His characterization gained compliments from his co-workers Christian Bale who stars Batman and Michael Caine who plays butler Alfred Pennyworth.

"He steals the movie and I'm quite happy to say that. He's a hell of a talent and created a joker that's very iconic and one that will become a classic portrayal of the ages," said Bale.

"His energy was astonishing, especially when it came from this kind of calm. He's certainly the best villain I've ever seen," said Caine.

As for critics, the work of Ledger must earn an Oscar nomination and for many it deserves been awarded.

The Dark Knight has overall received good critics and great anticipation from people. The film will debut in the United States on July 18 and has sold out show times forcing new show times at 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.
