NEW YORK - Nymex Holdings Inc., the parent of the New York Mercantile Exchange, said Wednesday average daily trading volume increased 29 percent in June while contract rates increased.

Volume increased to about 1.8 million contracts per day in June, compared with 1.4 million contracts per share during the same month last year.
Contract rates also rose during the month. The gross average rate per contract in June was $1.56, compared with $1.54 per contract during June 2007.
Net average rate per contract was $1.32 in June, up from $1.28 per contract during the year-ago period.
Nymex said final May 2008 gross rates per contract were $1.57, while the average net rate per contract was $1.33.
