Earnings roundup: Revlon, Insteel Industries

NEW YORK (AP)--Cosmetics maker Revlon Inc. said Thursday it expects to move to a profit in the second quarter, partly because of strong sales of newly launched products.

MOUNT AIRY, N.C. (AP)--Steel wire reinforcement maker Insteel Industries Inc. said Thursday its fiscal third-quarter profit more than doubled, but shares tumbled after the company warned of higher raw material costs and softness in the nonresidential construction market.

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP)--United Technologies Corp.'s second-quarter profit rose 11 percent, as the maker of everything from jet engines to ventilation systems reported strong growth at its subsidiaries Otis elevator and Carrier air conditioner.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)--Steel maker Nucor Corp. said Thursday strong shipments and growing margins propelled its second-quarter profit 68 percent higher, but its third-quarter guidance was below Wall Street expectations. Its shares tumbled more than 8 percent.

WALLINGFORD, Conn. (AP)--Amphenol Corp., which makes electronic and fiber optic connectors and cables, said Thursday its second-quarter profit jumped 31 percent, beating Wall Street's expectations.
