WALTHAM, Mass. - Lab supply and scientific instrument maker Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. on Thursday said it bought privately held Affinity BioReagents for an undisclosed amount.
Golden, Colo.-based Affinity has made more than 35,000 reagents, which are used in medical and academic research and drug discovery. The company also makes antibodies, which are proteins the immune system makes in response to foreign substances, and recombinant proteins. Thermo Fisher will make Affinity part of its Analytical Technologies business.
Affinity BioReagents had approximately $6 million in revenue in 2007.
On July 1, Thermo Fisher bought Open Biosystems Inc., which develops tools to help scientists learn how to shut off genes that trigger disease. Open Biosystems was also bought for an undisclosed amount, and was added to the Analytic Technologies unit.
In afternoon trading, Thermo Fisher stock rose 70 cents to $57.18.
