NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A federal jury has convicted a former Tennessee state senator for taking money from government contractors and lobbying for them while he served in the Senate.
It's the second corruption conviction for John Ford, who was once one of the state's most powerful lawmakers. He was sentenced last year to 5 1/2 years in prison for taking bribes to influence legislation favoring a fake company created by the FBI.
Ford accepted more than $800,000 from contractors for the state's expanded Medicare program. He claimed all his consulting work was legal and performed out of state.
He could face up to 60 years on the charges, but his actual sentence would likely be lower. Ford did not speak to media after Friday's verdict.
