Salma Hayek's representative said on Friday that the actress will not be marrying billionaire businessman Francois-Henri Pinault and did not reveal the reason to the public.
"We are sad to announce the engagement of Salma Hayek and Francois-Henri Pinault has been canceled," Hayek's representative Cari Ross said in a statement. "There will be no further comment."
Hayek met Pinault in Venice in May 2006. The couple's engagement was announced in March 2007. Hayek and Pinault have a baby girl born in September of last year.
The couple was seen together in public last year in February, when they attended the Madonna-hosted Gucci store opening in New York that brought a double benefit for Salma's Raising Malawi foundation.
Hayek has starred in films such as "Frida," "Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over" and "After the Sunset." She is one of the executive producers of "Ugly Betty" on ABC and the chief executive of Ventanazul, a production company that she formed together with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc.
Pinault is the chief executive officer of the luxury goods company PPR SA, which owns high-end labels such as Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga and Puma.
In September, Salma Hayek gave birth to a baby girl, Valentina Paloma Pinault, the first child for 41-year-old mother who said she suffered a difficult pregnancy, and the third child for the 45-year-old father, who is the owner of the world-known Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent.
Francois-Henri Pinault has two children from a marriage that ended in 2004.
At this moment, it is not clear if the couple plans to stay together despite the engagement cancellation.
