Dollar trades mixed, gold falls in Europe

LONDON - The U.S. dollar was mixed against other major currencies in European trading Friday morning. Gold fell.

The euro traded at $1.5848, up from $1.5810 late Thursday in New York. Later in midday trading in New York Friday, the euro fetched $1.5844.

Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Thursday, included 106.72 Japanese yen, up from 106.69; 1.0216 Swiss francs, down from 1.0231; and 1.0049 Canadian dollars, down from 1.0068.

The British pound was quoted at $1.9981, down from $1.9992.

Later, in New York midday trading, the dollar bought 106.76 yen and 1.0214 francs, while the pound was worth $1.9980.

Gold traded in London at $959.75 per troy ounce, down from $965.50 late Thursday.
