QLogic 1st-quarter profit jumps as sales rise

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - Network equipment maker QLogic Corp. said Monday its fiscal first-quarter profit jumped 67 percent, boosted by strong sales of networking and other products.

For the three months ended June 29, the company earned $31.6 million, or 24 cents per share, up from a profit of $19 million, or 12 cents per share, in the same period a year earlier.

Excluding items, the company earned 31 cents per share in the latest quarter.

Revenue rose 20 percent to $168.4 million from $139.8 million last year.

Analysts, on average, were expecting 29 cents per share, on sales of $161.9 million, according to a poll by Thomson Financial. Analysts typically exclude one-time items from their estimates.

Shares added 19 cents to $16.67 in after-hours electronic trading. The stock closed down 12 cent at $16.48 in the regular session.
