Taiwan stock index up almost 4 percent

TAIPEI, Taiwan - Taiwan's main stock index climbed nearly 4 percent Monday, boosted by last week's strong performance on Wall Street and gains on regional bourses.

The Weighted Price Index of the Taiwan Stock Exchange rose 270.35 points, or 3.97 percent, to 7,085.67 points.

Robust performances on exchanges in Hong Kong and Shanghai and weaker oil pricing helped to push Taiwan stocks higher.

In Monday's trade, financial and electronics issues stood out, but shares across most sectors registered gains.
