PHILADELPHIA (AP)--Arbitron Inc., a research firm that measures radio audiences, on Tuesday fell well short of expectations with an 84 percent drop in net income in its second quarter, when the expense of going electronic overtook a modest increase in revenue.

NORFOLK, Va. (AP)--Railroad Norfolk Southern Corp. said Tuesday its second-quarter profit rose 15 percent as higher revenue per shipment offset a 2 percent decline in traffic.

PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP)--Business software maker VMware Inc. said Tuesday its second-quarter profit and revenue grew, helped by growing international sales, but the company's revenue forecast for the current quarter fell shy of expectations.

IRVINE, Calif. (AP)--Edwards Lifesciences Corp., which makes heart valves and other cardiovascular products, said Tuesday its second-quarter profit rose 14 percent on sales increases from a range of products including heart valves and hospital systems.

SUNNYVALE, Calif. (AP)--Intuitive Surgical Inc. on Tuesday said its second-quarter profit jumped 66 percent as sales of its surgical robotics soared. The results came in ahead of Wall Street expectations, and shares rose in aftermarket trading.
