Dollar trades mixed, gold falls in Europe

LONDON - The U.S. dollar was mixed against other major currencies in European trading Wednesday. Gold fell.
The euro traded at $1.5554, down from $1.5586 late Tuesday in New York. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro fetched $1.5575.
Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Tuesday, included 108.17 Japanese yen, up from 108.10; 1.0485 Swiss francs, up from 1.0452; and 1.0239 Canadian dollars, down from 1.0250.
The British pound was quoted at $1.9798, up from $1.9794.
In New York midday trading Wednesday, the dollar bought 108.12 yen and 1.0477 francs, while the pound was worth $1.9804.
Gold traded in London at $897.50 per troy ounce, down from $939.75 Tuesday.
