INDIANAPOLIS - Republic Airways Holdings, which operates feeder flights for major airlines, said Monday that passenger miles rose 12.3 percent in July, but the gain wasn't enough to offset a surge in capacity.

Passenger miles rose to 893 million in July from 795 million a year earlier. Available seat miles, or capacity, gained 16.4 percent to 1.15 billion from 991 million.
Republic's load factor or average occupancy fell to 77.4 percent from 80.3 percent a year earlier.
The company carried 1.76 million passengers in the month, up from 1.5 million a year earlier.
The Indianapolis-based holding company owns Chautauqua Airlines, Republic Airlines and Shuttle America.
The airlines offer more than 1,200 daily flights in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Jamaica as AmericanConnection, Continental Express, Delta Connection, United Express and US Airways Express.
