Baseball star Alex Rodriguez is making a $1 million donation to Madonna's charity called "Raising Malawi" to help orphan children in Africa, according to a report.

The New York Daily News, quoting an unidentified source, said the Yankees player is willing to donate hundreds of thousands.

"They've asked him for a million dollars, and I hear he's agreed to give at least $500,000," the source commented according to the newspaper.

The Raising Malawi charity does not release information about donors. Since 2006, the charity, which is co-founded by pop singer Madonna and Michael Berg (Head of Kabbalah Center) is dedicated to providing support to about one million orphans in Malawi.

"People have asked, 'Why did you choose Malawi?' I always answer 'I didn't. Malawi chose me,'" said Madonna in a message on the Raising Malawi website.

The donation report comes more than a month after Rodriguez denied an affair with Madonna. Us magazine reported on July 1 that he was seen making late night visits to Madonna's New York apartment and that both had a friendship. Madonna had also been photographed at a Yankees game for the first time using A-Rod seats.

This came after other reports in 2007 linking A-Rod to a stripper in Toronto, Miami and Dallas. His wife, Cynthia, filed for divorce from the superstar ballplayer on July 7 this year, accusing him of "extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct," and claims that he "emotionally abandoned his wife and children."

Her lawyer also said the baseball player had an "affair of the heart" with Madonna and this was "the last straw."

A-Rod replied to Cynthia's divorce filing on July 31 confirming their marriage was "irretrievably broken."
