Kitajima Liu Swim in world mark and starfame in the east

Kitajima swept the breastroke for the second straight Olympics by winning the 200 in two minutes 7.64 seconds.

China rejoiced as Liu won the 200 butterfly, taking the host countries first Olympic gold medal, pushing the world mark to 2:04:18.

"I didn't expect that I could swim so fast," Liu said. "I've only improved in the last year."

Federer is battling a yearlong numbness that has kept him at 12 grand slam titles.

The pressure took Federer who will see Nadal take the number ranking on Monday.

James Blake won Federer for the first time, 6-4, 7-6 (7/2).
