Madonna and her husband will adopt another child, a 3-year-old Malawian girl named Mercy James, whom Madonna met one year ago at an orphanage in Malawi, according to a report.
As a gift for Madonna's 50th birthday celebration which will be on Saturday, husband Guy Ritchie agreed to try adopt another baby, The Mail reported.
"The recent marriage rows led Guy and Madonna to have a heart-to-heart meeting in New York," said a friend, according to th report
"They asked themselves whether they were staying together for the sake of the children or because they wanted to be with each other".
"Guy came back to the UK and began to plan the big birthday. He wanted to get her the one thing she really wanted. And the one thing that she has really put on hold for him has been adopting another child".
Malawian official Mr. Penstone Kilembe, who is responsible for the adoption of little Mercy James, declared that the adoption of the child is now advanced: "all the government is waiting for is Madonna to forward the petition of adoption formalities. Then Mercy will be able to leave the country for a new life".
However, Mercy's grandmother Lucy Chekechiwa is totally against the adoption.
'We know that it is Mercy who Madonna really wants. We heard it is because my granddaughter is such a beautiful, happy child. Twice I have told the adoption people that I do not want Mercy to go outside the country. But they keep on at us," said Chekechiwa.
"Now they say that Mercy will be leaving us, but can return at age 18. Yet I might not be alive then", the grandmother added.
The same friend of Madonna-Ritchie family said that Ritchie is not just going to allow the adoption search to continue, but he will actively fight for it along with his wife.
