'Tropic Thunder' posts $44 Million at U.S. Box Office in 1st Week

The R-rated comedy from DreamWorks Studios and Paramount Pictures "Tropic Thunder" grossed $44 million in sales at the U.S. Box office on its first full week in theaters, according to BoxOfficemojo.com.

The film -- directed by and starring Ben Stiller, also co-stars Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. -- had a strong start as it snatched the top position at the box office this weekend, with a reported $25.8 million showing in 3,319 theaters.

Before this weekend, "The Dark Knight" a Warner Bros. production, lead the charts for four consecutive weekends. The Batman sequel has sold $477.1 Million in tickets at the Domestic Box Office since its debut on July 18.

The "Tropic Thunder" audience was 57 percent male and 67 percent was older than 25, according to DreamWorks' research, according to BoxOfficeMojo.

The movie has a combined total of $49.5 million domestically and internationally according to statistics by BoxOfficemojo.com as of August 20.
