"Tropic Thunder" Performance at Domestic Box Office on 1st Week

NEW YORK - As of Wednesday August 20, "Tropic Thunder" had a combined total of $49.5 million from which 94.7 percent - the equivalent to $46.8 million - is from the domestic market, according to BoxOfficemojo.com an online Box Office information provider.

The movie debuted on August 13, in 3,319 theaters on approximately 4,500 screens.

The comedy from DreamWorks Studios and Paramount Pictures grossed $25.8 million on its domestic opening weekend and $44 million in sales at the first full week in U.S. theaters, according to the source.

On the same weekend, the film also snatched the top position at the box office that during four consecutive weekends belong to Warner Bros. Batman sequel "The Dark Knight."

"Tropic Thunder" is directed, written and starred by Ben Stiller and co-starred by Justin Theroux, Robert Downey, Jr., Jack Black and Jay Baruchel.

The movie plot centers on a group of actors who are lost in the jungle while making a war movie and end up falling in a real war zone.
