SAN FRANCISCO - Tyra Banks' show "America's Next Top Model" will introduce Isis, its first transgender contestant, on September 3.
With the occasion of its 11th season opening, this year's top model in America might have Isis crowned. The show has cast numerous gay contestants, last season declaring a plus-size model as the winner.
"We want to redefine what beauty is. You can be tall, you can be short, you can be plus size, you can be transgender; you don't have to be what the modeling industry says you have to be. That was one of Tyra's original missions" said executive producer Ken Mok.
"My cards were dealt differently," contestant Isis told Us Weekly about herself.
The 22-year-old previously working with non-profit for Prince George's County, Maryland, identifies herself as "a woman born physically male."
