The Leiden-based company said it will end Swedish bulk production of Dukoral in 2012 and move production to other company-owned facilities in Switzerland. It will stop formulation, filling and packaging of Dukoral after 2011, and move those operations to Spain.
Dukoral is an oral vaccine designed to prevent diarrhea caused by cholera, an intestinal infection, along with traveler's diarrhea. The vaccine contains several strains of inactive cholera, along with recombinant cholera toxin B, or rCTB. Production of rCTB will also be moved to Spain from Sweden.
Research activities will be closed by the end of 2008 and moved to Leiden. Nordic sales, distribution and customer service will still be based in Solna, Sweden.
In morning trading, American Depositary Shares of Crucell rose 8 cents to $16.33.
