ST. LOUIS - Medical device maker Stereotaxis Inc. said Wednesday the Food and Drug Administration approved its new guidewire device for use in vascular surgery.

The company's PowerAssert radiofrequency guidewire is used during vascular surgery, the goal of which is to unclog blocked arteries.
Stereotaxis is planning a limited introduction of the guidewire later this year, with a broader commercial launch to follow.
Shares of Stereotaxis rose 1 cent to $7 in afternoon trading.
