'King of Pop' Michael Jackson's Half Century Birthday

By Julia Michaels | 01 September 2008 @ 12:50 pm ET

Last Friday, Michael Jackson turned 50-years-old and with this occasion, the King of Pop decided upon a small celebration.

Sony is releasing an album based on fan votes called "King of Pop," but overseas only, not in The United States.

"The King Of Pop" album comes after a long break of Michael Jackson-album release, since 'Invincible' 2001.

"I feel very wise and sage, but at the same time very young", said the singer.

Jackson said in an exclusive interview to ABC News, that he can still do all his famous dance moves and even "more."

He spent the day "having a wonderful time, just relaxing" with children Prince Michael, 11, Paris, 10, and six-year-old Prince Michael II.

After he listened to some records by his idol, James Brown, he wanted to just have a little cake with his children and probably watch some cartoons.

In Las Vegas, Jackson appeared very thin when he posed for pictures, insiders saying that Jackson's health may block him from any performance.

J. Randy Tarborelli, the esteemed biographer, who has written about the star since he first emerged as an 11-year-old, said that Jackson has never got better from the child molestation trial he passed through in 2005.

Tarborelli says the legendary pop star has never recovered nor physically or mentally from that time period, spending most of his time in a wheelchair.

There are also rumours that he is planning a comeback, due to his public statement addressed to his fans at the 25th anniversary of 'Thriller', that he hoped to come back "very soon".

"If anyone can make a comeback its Michael Jackson, but my god he's really going to have to get it right. Can he do it? Well the jury's still out. Musically he's going to have to do something as momentous as Elvis Presley's '68 Comeback Special. It depends on how well he's holding it together. Michael is going to have to get a new brand, a new gimmick and a new sound", Paul McKenzie (editor of black urban music magazine Touch) told Sky News.

"The biggest question is does Michael Jackson want to come back? At 50 has he got the energy? Has he got the desire? His career has been a rollercoaster over the last ten years and crucially, I'm not sure he's got the appetite to", said Mark Borkowski (press expert who represented Jackson during his heyday) to Sky News.
