PORTLAND, Ore. - Donaldson Co. said Tuesday that it expects its sales and profit to grow in the 2009 fiscal year after reporting a 16 percent jump in its fiscal fourth-quarter income.

The air and liquid filtration company said it expects to earn between $2.30 and $2.40 per share for the year, and it expects full-year sales to grow by 9 to 11 percent.
On average, analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial forecast earnings per share of $2.44 on revenue of $2.44 billion.
Donaldson also reported Tuesday that its net income for the fourth quarter and year jumped on strong sales. The company reported net income of $48.6 million, or 60 cents per share, for the quarter ended July 31, up from $43.3 million, or 53 cents per share, for the same quarter of 2007. Full-year net income grew to $172 million, or $2.12 per share, up from $150.7 million, or $1.83 a share for last year.
The impact of foreign currency increased reported net earnings by $3.3 million in the quarter and $12.9 million for the year.
Shares of the Donaldson rose slightly in after-hours trading to $43 after closing on Tuesday at $42.94.
