The pregnancy of Republican vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin's single teenage daughter has been an issue since the announcement was made on Monday.
Palin -who is governor of Alaska and was chosen to be Republican senator John McCain's running mate - issued the statement that her 17 year old daughter Bristol Palin is five months pregnant .
Governor Palin also announced that her daughter will marry Levi Johnston, 18 the supposed father of the baby. Johnston is a hockey player at Wasilla High School in Alaska and dated the daughter for a year, according to the New York Daily News. Both were already engaged, the source says quoting the mother of a friend of Johnston.
"We are proud of Bristol's decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support," Governor Palin and her husband Todd said in a statement issued on Monday. They both asked for respect and privacy the teen parents.
The baby will be born in late December.
Instead of governor Palin, Johnston has become the focus on media reports. The governor's future son-in-law picture has been found in the web and posted along with writings about himself taken from his MySpace page.
On his personal page, Johnston wrote he is a "fin' redneck." "I live to play Hockey. I like to go camping and hang out with the boys, do some fishing," he said. He also commented that "I don't want kids" (but he admits he has been dating someone) and finally notes that if someone messes with him, he will "Kick a.." the Daily News reported while the page was still up.
The page has since been pulled off from the internet.
Reports caught the attention of some celebrities on Tuesday, including actress Lindsay Lohan, who had expressed the focus on the vice president is getting lost amid the family issues.
"I've been watching the news all morning, like everyone else - and i keep hearing about the issues related to 'teen pregnancy," writes Lohan on her MySpace political blog. "Well, I think the real problem comes from the fact that we are taking the focus off of getting to know Sarah Palin, and her political views and what she can do to make our country a less destructive place," she adds.
