NEW YORK - Shares of some top machinery companies were down at the close of trading:

CAT	36.96	-0.56
DE	29.26	-1.72
MTW	6.89	0.25
TEX	12.3	-0.11

Caterpillar fell $3.79 or 5.6 percent, to $63.94.

Deere s fell $3.03 or 4.6 percent, to $63.50.

Manitowoc fell $1.63 or 6.9 percent, to $22.02.

Terex fell $9.30 or 19.7 percent, to $38.02.
