SAIC wins US Army contract worth up to $20 million

SAN DIEGO - Military contractor SAIC Inc. said Thursday that it has received a U.S. Army contract valued at up to $20 million to help support the Naval Health Research Center.

The multiple-award contract has a one year base period and four one-year options. Under the contract, SAIC will conduct biomedical, epidemiological and clinical research at Naval Health Research Center facilities across the U.S.

SAIC will provide services in areas including HIV/AIDS prevention and behavioral sciences. SAIC will also perform research in deployment health, submarine and aerospace medical effects and environmental health effects, the company said.

SAIC shares jumped 98 cents, or 5 percent, to $20.48 in morning trading. Shares have traded between $17.33 and $21.90 in the past 12 months.
