HOUSTON - Engineering and construction services provider KBR Inc. said Friday it has received a contract from Changzhou Kingboard Century Chemical Co. Ltd. for a new phenol plant in Changzhou, China.

The company did not disclose the value of the contract.
KBR will license its phenol technology for the plant, which will produce 200,000 metric tons of phenol annually. Phenol is used to make a variety of products including air fresheners, medical ointments, cosmetics and sunscreens.
It will also provide preliminary design, as well as commissioning and startup support services.
Work on the facility is expected to begin immediately.
The phenol plant is the second Kingboard has licensed from KBR. The first, in Huizhou, China, began operating in late 2007.
