The videogame created by Will Wright, who also made the "Sims" series games, challenges players to create starting from tiny organisms and evolve them into civilizations that eventually build an entire galaxy.
Through the game's social networking feature, player's creations can be seen by other players and can interact with them.
"There is a sense of discovering and excitement no matter how many times you play the game," said Alex Hutchinson Sr. Game Designer on a video featured on You Tube's Spore's video channel.
The game takes players through four stages of evolution, starting from the Creature stage, Tribal Stage, Civilization stage and Space stage.
While on creature stage, users can make and evolve their own creature starting from micro-organisms. Later they are able to manipulate its size and add parts such as legs, arms, eyes, etc.
On the tribal stage, the goal is to become a civilization, either by fighting others or allying with others. Also creatures gather food and build a village. Compared to the first stage, here players have a whole tribe of creatures to control.
In space, players can start to explore the galaxy.
The first version of the game released yesterday makes it available only for computers but the company also plans to make versions available for cellphones and Nintendo DS. "Spore Origins" (a smaller version containing Phase I of the game) will be available for iPhone and iPod within this month, according to EA Mobile, a division of EA.
