A 478-carat stone found in Lesotho, the southern African nation, could yield one of the largest and highest quality round polished diamonds, according to Gem Diamonds Ltd., the company that found the stone, CNN reported Monday.
After analyzing the stone, experts in Antwerp, Belgium, said it had one of the highest possible color gradings for a white diamond, with a possibility of getting a 100-carat plus round diamond with highest color and clarity rankings, added the report.
The diamond, ranks as the 20th largest rough diamond ever found, and will be third largest stones found in the Letseng Mine, after stones of 603 and 493 carats were found in 2006 and 2007, respectively.
