NEW YORK - Shares of some top durable goods companies were mixed at the close of trading:

Quotes

SWK	26.24	0.86
BDK	35.54	2.37
SNA	30.37	1.75
WHR	31.97	1.05

Black & Decker rose $.38 or .6 percent, to $62.89.

Snap-On fell $1.81 or 3.2 percent, to $54.99.

Stanley Works fell $1.37 or 3.0 percent, to $44.70.

Whirlpool rose $1.41 or 1.7 percent, to $84.36.
