26 September 2008 @ 05:11 pm ET

Although the first presidential debate doesn't take place until 9 pm ET tonight, an ad, which ran on the Wall Street Journal this morning, declared prematurely that Senator John McCain is the winner of tonight's debate.

Another ad spotted by an astute reader featured a quote from McCain campaign manager Rick Davis declaring: "McCain won the debate-- hands down.

The debate will be held at 9:00 pm EST in Oxford, Miss., the University of Mississippi.

The subject of tonight's debate will be foreign policy, but questions about the economy are expected to intervene. The moderator will be Jim Lehrer of PBS.

McCain decided to meet Democrat Barack Obama for the debate, reversing his decision two days ago to suspend his campaign while lawmakers negotiated a proposed $700 billion bailout of U.S. financial markets.
