CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Hospital operator MedCath Corp. said Friday Chief Operating Officer Phil Mazzuca resigned to take a position with a private health care company.

Mazzuca will remain at MedCath for 90 days. President and Chief Executive O. Edwin French and the senior vice president for operations, Derek Morkel, will assume Mazzuca's responsibilities on an interim basis.

Shares of MedCath closed at $18.98 Thursday.
