Utility Progress Energy Inc. spent $430,000 in the second quarter to lobby on legislation covering greenhouse gas emissions and other issues, according to a recent disclosure report.

Raleigh, N.C.-based Progress, which owns two major utilities which serve 3.1 million customers in the Carolinas and Florida, also lobbied the federal government on legislation involving climate change, cap and trade, renewable and alternative energy and fuels, capture and storage of carbon dioxide emissions, taxes and railroad antitrust issues.

In the April-June period, Progress lobbied both the Senate and the House, according to the report filed July 10.
