A summary of the findings from a Justice Department investigation into why nine U.S. attorneys were fired in 2006-2007.
___
Daniel Bogden, former U.S. attorney for Nevada:
Bogden was told to resign in December 2006. He announced his resignation in January 2007 and left office the following month.
Bogden was asked to resign because of complaints from the head of the department's Obscenity Prosecution Task Force about Bogden's decision not to assign a Nevada prosecutor to a task force case.
___
Paul Charlton, former U.S. attorney for Arizona:
Charlton was asked to resign in December 2006. He announced his resignation later that month and left office in January 2007.
Charlton's removal was prompted after he ignored Justice Department officials' order to quit tape recording interrogations, appealed directly to lawmakers for additional resources without approval of Justice Department headquarters and opposed seeking the death penalty in a particular case in 2006.
