NEW YORK - Shares of some top oil companies were down at the close of trading:

Quotes

CVX	70.49	6.09
COP	46.84	5.04
XOM	75.81	7.3
MRO	22.52	2.94

Chevron fell $9.45 or 10.9 percent, to $77.50.

ConocoPhillips fell $6.93 or 9.1 percent, to $69.31.

Exxon Mobil fell $6.59 or 8.2 percent, to $74.06.

Marathon Oil fell $3.35 or 8.2 percent, to $37.48.
