NEW YORK - Leading handset maker Nokia Corp. said Tuesday that it will buy privately held mobile e-mail and instant messaging company OZ Communications.

The purchase price was not disclosed. OZ is based in Montreal and has 220 employees and more than 5.5 million monthly paid users.
Espoo, Finland-based Nokia expects the deal to close in the fourth quarter, and said OZ will join Nokia's services and software unit.
Nokia said it has been working with the company since 2003, and will keep working with OZ's current original equipment manufacturer and mobile operator customers.
Nokia's American Depositary Shares rose 69 cents, or 3.9 percent, to $18.29.
