USDA: Neb. wheat harvest down 13 pct from 2007

LINCOLN, Neb. - The U.S. Department of Agriculture says Nebraska farmers harvested an estimated 73.5 million bushels of wheat this year--13 percent less than 2007 but 20 percent more than 2006.

The USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service says the average yield was estimated at 44 bushels an acre, which is one bushel higher than last year.

The service report says the Nebraska area harvested for grain was 1.67 million acres, nearly 300,000 fewer acres than last year.
