FORT WORTH, Texas - Oil and gas explorer XTO Energy Inc. said Wednesday that recent tropical storms cut into its third-quarter production by 3.5 billion of cubic feet equivalent, one-third of which is oil and liquids.

The company said it expects some of the operating effects to persist into the fourth quarter, lowering production by between 2.5 billion and 3 billion of cubic feet equivalent.
Shares fell $1.56, or 3.3 percent, to $44.96 in morning trading.
