Bart Whitaker, had initially intended for his father to die as well, but he survived the shootings which took place in Sugar Land, Texas in December 2003.

The new book tells how Kent, while recovering in the hospital, resolved in his heart to forgive whoever was responsible for the deaths of his wife and son.

In the weeks after the killings, Kent discovered that it was his son.

Kent Whitaker, whose son is on death row for hiring the gunman has written a new book called "Murder by Family" which details the tragedy.

The book was written following the suggestion of a grief counselor, Kent told WHOU on Monday.

Bart Whitaker hired his roommate to carry out the deed. Kent has also forgiven him.

Bart was sentenced to die last year, but his father has forgiven him. Kent still hopes that his son's life can be spared.

"I have a very strong faith that God is a good god," Whitaker said.
