PITTSBURGH - Shares of aluminum producer Alcoa Inc. plummeted to a 10-year low Monday as the government's bailout efforts failed to ease investors' concerns over the credit crisis weighing on financial markets.

Alcoa shares shed $1.13, or 5.9 percent, to close at $18.11, after sinking to $16.70 earlier in the day. The last time Alcoa shares fell that low was in September 1998.
The drop came as the Dow Jones industrial average fell 369.88 points, or 3.6 percent, to 9,955.50--the first close below 10,000 in four years.
