AUSTIN, Texas - Gas and oil explorer Brigham Exploration Co. on Tuesday announced a discovery in its first Three Forks well in the Williston Basin of North Dakota.

The company, which owns a 32 percent working interest and 26 percent net revenue interest in the well, said it produced a recent rate of about 892 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
The discovery was in the Ross Area, where Brigham controls about 27,780 net acres. The company said it has completed four consecutive horizontal Bakken wells and plans an active development drilling program for the Bakken and Three Forks.
Shares of Brigham Exploration rose 44 cents, or 6.4 percent, to $7.32 in morning trading.
