The new soldiers in the upcoming prequel 'Halo 3: Recon' are "among the fiercest" in the popular game series, Microsoft says.
Like Marines, they are the first unit deployed in hostilities.
The story line for the new series to be released in Fall 2009 takes place before the events leading up to the Master Chief's return to New Mombasa in Halo 3, Microsoft said in a statement released from the Tokyo Game Show 2008.
Microsoft says the new prequel for the 'Halo' series of games, 'Halo 3: Recon' will let players experience a "brand-new perspective" on the game.
"Experience the fate of Earth from the brand-new perspective of a special forces ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper), adding a unique outlook and new gameplay elements to the events that unfold in the trilogy's finale," Microsoft said.
The new game will require users use more stealth techniques to outwit opponents than previous version, Microsoft says.
"While not as large or supernaturally gifted as their Spartan comrades, these "Hell Jumpers" more than compensate with their ferocious attitudes and unwavering nerve," Microsoft says.
Xbox LIVE Gold members will also be getting new multiplayer content including new maps and expanded Forge options. The new multiplayer maps will fully support the Forge editor.
